Flapper Dress

I found an absolutely gorgeous flapper dress at a new thrift store this week. It is the 1980s doing the 20s. It is black velvet and silk with a damask pattern in burnt velvet. The design is sort of an ornate art noveau abstract swirls with a border banding the hemline in tan and burgundy. It has subtle black and dark pink sequin beading along the neckline. It is a sleeveless shift or tunic dress. I suppose it qualifies as a drop waisted dress as it just has no waist at all. Perfect for puttin’ on the Ritz.

Reminds me a lot of the wardrobes of Boardwalk Empire or Downton Abbey. Granted neither have progressed far enough into the 1920s for the hemline to be up to the knee quite yet.

I believe this originally came from the evening wear section of Nordstrom as it makes a perfect cocktail dress or formal for the prom.
