Call the Midwife

So PBS has aired one of the BBC costume dramas set in the 1950s in East End London. The show is “Call the Midwife” and is based on the memoirs of Jennifer Worth.

Good writing, excellent acting and lovely costumes. Nurse Jennie is a midwife who is just starting out. She lives with an order of nursing nuns in a house of midwives who serve the local district which is quite poor.

Each episode features different little adventures and struggles of the various people in the community. And as you might expect many birthing babies. Nothing too gruesome.

It also follows the lives of the other nurses and nuns living in the house. It is inspirational without being too overly sentimental. Very charming overall.
