Vintage Find – Spice Jars

So for the last 6 months I’ve been on the hunt for the perfect spice jar or spice rack. Searching thrift stores, Target, Ikea, and flea markets. Finally broke down and bought one at Ross for $17. Twenty glass jars with various spices and black plastic shaker lids on a rotating carousel by Old Thompson. Not a bad design and not a bad price.

Then of course 3 days later I find 10 jars at the local Goodwill Outlet for less than a $1 per jar! Such is life. Well, now I’m just going to keep both. I can fill the little jars with spices from my ugly plastic grocery store spices and the el cheapo ones you get in a plastic bag. These glass ones have cute retro labels a la 1960s or 70s and little stoppers with plastic inside so they are airtight. Stamped on the bottom Made in Japan.

I think the colors look quite pretty. I even got fresh rosemary from my garden and dried it for one jar. How to refill jars (without a funnel). Clean jars and dry thoroughly. Take a piece of paper and fold into a v-shape funnel similar to a pastry bag. Pour spice in and then throw away the paper. Works best with glossy magazine pages.

Want your own spice jars without the hassle? Look at ebay, craigslist or etsy. The exact kind I bought is up on etsy “Collection of 20 Vintage Glass Apothecary Spice Jars” by RootedinVintage from New Jersey.
